The Jews are divided by what Jesus has done, with the Jewish leaders reacting rebelliously (vv. 45-50). But their rebellion is according to the plan of the Father (vv. 51-53), which Jesus will accomplish at the proper time on behalf of God's children (vv. 54-57).
