Because God has shown His love for us in Jesus, true believers will always walk in love (1 John 4:7-19), just as He has commanded those who have been born of Him (1 John 4:20-5:4).

Not every spirit can be trusted, but Christians can determine a spirit's origin based on what it says about Jesus (1 John 4:1-3) and whether it aligns itself with the world or the church (1 John 4:4-6).

While failure to love other believers is akin to hatred and murder (1 John 3:11-15), our love for one another reflects Christ (1 John 3:16-17) and fuels spiritual confidence (1 John 3:18-24).
